A group of five 'Jacksons' danced up a storm inside Club Privilege, New Kingston, on Saturday night as the first staging of Pepsi's King of Pop party series took place.
Though they did not have a full venue to perform to, the five were not deterred as they danced to nearly all songs played by the disc jockeys.
Whenever songs by the late pop king were played, the five became even more animated, dancing to their own variations of popular Jackson moves.
The five had obviously done their homework and shared Jackson's inimitable sense of fashion - at least for the night. But the outfits didn't stop them from putting down when hip-hop, R&B, and even dancehall songs blared from the speakers.
Yeah by Usher and Lil John and Elephant Man's song on the same rhythm were accompanied by high-energy dancing. To Joe Budden's Pump It Up, the male 'Jacksons' did acrobatic moves, while the women made humorous but futile attempts to copy them.
Do You Remember? also served well to stir up what seemed to be some passionate-moving 'Jacksons'.
Jerk and Moves Like Jagger created an avenue for a more modern flavour. That flavour even had one fan joining the five for a 'jerking' face-off.
The event marked the first in the King Of Pop parties. Two other events will be held at Margaritaville in Ocho Rios and in Montego Bay on August 25 and September 1, respectively.
All this leads up to an August 29 Michael Jackson Live Hologram Concert in New York.
Pepsi's Carlo Redwood told The Gleaner that the promotions in places such as supermarkets and at Tastee outlets had been going well and that the reception had been good all-round.
Pepsi's promotion on Facebook also allows patrons to win a prize of a trip for two to see the hologram concert.
"It's really just a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Bad album. We launched the campaign about a month ago, and we really wanted to bring the party vibe, and Jamaicans love Michael Jackson's music. They love entertainment," he said of the King Of Pop events.
Redwood went on to say that Pepsi has been working with top names in Jamaican entertainment circles such as disc jockeys Delano, Sanjay, and Nicco to ensure the events are a blast.
