The Prime Minister says the recent controversial comments made by Zimbabwe's President, Robert Mugabe about Jamaican men, are misguided and disrespectful.

According to reports Mr. Mugabe gave a speech in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, last week in which he called Jamaica,“a country of marijuana smokers, where women are now taking charge since men are always drunk".

In a release yesterday, Mrs. Simpson Miller said after exhaustive checks, the government has confirmed that Mr. Mugabe made uncomplimentary remarks about Jamaican men.

The Prime Minister says the remarks are grossly unfortunate, regardless of whether they were made in jest, as has been reported in Zimbabwean media.
